M.A.C. Fernana | General practitioner

Working in health care and meaning something for people, that’s what I wanted to do from an early age. The choice to become a doctor was made quickly, but unfortunately I was drawn in the Netherlands for the study of medicine. For this reason, I followed my studies in Leuven and then started to learn the practice from Leiden University. After 1 year of working as a gynaecology intern in Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis in Delft, it was quite clear that I wanted to become a general practitioner. The personal intensive contacts and monitoring of patients in all the different age categories and the diversity of problems, that is what appeals most to me in my work as a family doctor. I want to be able to practice medicine in the broadest sense of the word and not limit myself to one particular discipline. However, I do have special interests in this field; gynaecology, including making gynaecological ultrasounds, internal medicine and dermatology.

I have been working as a general practitioner since 2006 and since 2015 also started as a general practitioner trainer, together with my experienced colleague Feenstra. I enjoy doing this as well, it is fun to pass on knowledge and to make young doctors enthusiastic about our profession.
