Volunteer

We  encourage volunteers who want to make a difference. Each program has volunteer needs. Please contact Cynthia Briggs if you have an interest in working with Our Place DC.

Become a Pen Pal or Mentor

Before a women comes home it is important to establish links back to the community.  Our Place DC's Pen Pal program provides the opportunity for incarcerated women to connect with an Our Place DC Pen Pal volunteer.   Volunteers meet at Our Place receive a letter and establish on-going communication with a women.

As women work to transform their lives developing a new support system is key to success. Volunteering to become a mentor is making a commitment to one woman in her transition and recovery.   All mentors must be trained and supervised while providing this important support to the women of OPDC.

Support our Clothing Boutique

Women come to Our Place straight from jail with just the gray sweat suit on their backs.  Our Place DC's Clothing Boutique provides gently used and new clothing to women upon their release from prison.  We also support women with outfits for job interviews,  to attend church or special events.

The Clothing Boutique needs donations of casual clothes, suits, accessories and shoes. Larger sizes are in heavy demand. If you have clothing to donate please contact the Drop-In Center manager Agatha Malloy. .

Provide an Internship or Job

A job or internship that provides skills and training brings hope for new future when a women is seeking to rebuild her life.  Research shows that a job or meaningful work is one of the top three factors for successful reentry for a woman coming home after a period of incarceration.
